Kiera & Friends—7 January 2022

2022 has got off to a good start at CUE Haven. Today our friend, Kiera brought along her group of friends Aidan, Alistair, Angela, Caleb, Lorraine, Matt and Tom, for a visit.

Because of the long lock down we had mid/late 2021, we weren’t able to have many volunteer groups out and as a result, there is a lot of trimming and maintenance to catch up on, and the group graciously offered to help out with some much needed pruning along the tracks.

We spent some time getting acquainted over morning tea.  Mahrukh then talked about the history of the CUE Haven restoration project and plans for the future.  Thomas then gave a description of the work planned for the day and a safety briefing. 

To enable our visitors/volunteers a chance to get a good overview of the property, we took a leisurely walk up, trimming overhanging vegetation as we went up the tracks. 

The group was very interested in learning more about the restoration project and Thomas pointed out several interesting features along the way.

Eventually we made it to the top of the property and everyone got a chance to check out the views out to Kaipara Harbour from Te Rite o Taranaki.

We then walked back to the cottage via another route and had a relaxing lunch and spent more time getting acquainted.

Kiera, thank you for organizing the lovely visit today.  We really enjoyed meeting everyone and working and socialising with you all. A big thank you for your enthusiasm, interest and hard work and helping out. We really appreciate it and you have made all wonderful contribution to CUE Haven   We wish you all the very best for a great 2022 and look forward to seeing you again soon!
