Lisa’s Wish —January 2021

January 20, 2021

The Lisa’s Wish Grove at CUE Haven was established in 2015 in memory of Lisa Knapman-Smith. Lisa was a 27 year old mom of two young kids who died of breast cancer in 2009. While undergoing treatment Lisa was unable to do fun outdoor activities with her young children and had always wished there was an organisation that could provide her children these opportunities. With the assistance of family and friends the Lisa’s Wish Trust was established to take children whose parents were undergoing cancer treatment for fun outdoor activities.  From 2015 – 2017, the Trust held long weekend camps at CUE Haven and established the Lisa’s Wish Grove where they planted trees and helped with putting in a boardwalk, a bench and installed a lovely sign to welcome visitors to the grove.

The Lisa’s Wish Trust was dissolved three years ago, but the Knapman-Smith family have been coming each year and spending a few days at CUE Haven relaxing and also doing some maintenance and weeding in the Lisa’s Wish Grove.

Rosemarie, Ian, Neil, and Cort were back at CUE Haven for a few days and were joined for part of the visit by their friends Jason and Belinda.

The team worked on restoring the Grove’s sign as it was starting to show some signs of weathering.

With solvents and sander, they stripped the old varnish and then painted and varnished it again.

And thanks to all the hard work, the sign is looking like new.

This time of year there is a lot of morning glory growing up around the trees and the vines need to be pulled out. Rosemary and Neil spent some time weeding around the cottage and driveway

While the others cleared the weeds in Lisa’s Wish Grove.

Thanks to all their hard work restoring the sign and weeding, Lisa’s Wish Grove is looking really good.

A big thank you to Belinda, Cort, Ian, Jason, Rosemarie and Neil for all their hard work during their stay.  We really appreciate your help and assistance and so appreciate the Knapman-Smith’s commitment to the CUE Haven project.

You are always welcome at CUE Haven and we look forward to having you back.

Thanks again!!
