Today another hard working team from ANZ joined us to continue to improve the walking tracks at CUE Haven.

The enthusiastic team arrived bright and early and included Jalam, James, Jim, Jing, Justeel, Kevin, Rachel, Richard, Roy and Sarah.

Most of the team had been out to CUE Haven in previous years and it was great seeing old friends and welcoming new people.

We spent some time catching up over morning tea and then Mahrukh gave an overview of the project for those new to CUE Haven and updated the group on current activities and future plans.

Thomas then gave a safety briefing and outlined the work planned for the day.

The plan for the day was to continue to work installing side boards and retaining walls on a long section of track.  There were a number of unusual challenges with the work today and before we went up, the team had a look at the different kinds of timber available in the shed that they could use for solutions to some of the track issues we would be working on.

We drove up to the work site and went to work.  We broke the group into two teams.  One team worked at one end of the track and the other worked near the middle.

It was a bit of a hike from the road to where we would be working and the first task was to bring down all the gear.

The team in the middle of the track first worked on installing retaining boards along a curved section of track.  The first task was to dig out and level the area.

Once they were happy with the alignment of the track, they installed the side boards, pegging and nailing them in place.  The job required a lot of hammering.

Because of the slope at the edge of the track, they used longer than usual pegs to keep everything secure.

They cut the boards to size where necessary.

As they finished a section, they moved down the track, continuing to install boards on both sides.

In the meantime, the other team was working up from the end of the track.  Their first task was to reinstall some steps which were out of alignment.  They then installed retaining boards along the steps and up the track.

They fastened the boards in place with pegs and nails.

They got so much work done, we had to bring down some additional timber!

As planned, the groups met up and joined together to finish off the last section of track.

The sharp curve required a lot of short boards and that meant a lot of measuring and sawing.

And they worked a little longer than usual to finish off the last bit.

The team accomplished an amazing amount of work in a short time and the track is virtually complete. They devised some good solutions to the challenges they encountered and have made major improvements to the track and should be very proud of their efforts!

A special thank you to Jim for his continuing support and bringing his team out again and many thanks to Linda, the North Shore Business Banking Regional Administrator for making the arrangements for the day.

And a BIG thank you to everyone who came out today!  We very much appreciate your hard work and amazing contribution to CUE Haven. We really enjoyed working with you all and we hope you enjoyed the day as much as we did and look forward to having you out again for another fun and productive volunteer day.

And we also look forward to having you out with your friends and family for a leisurely visit soon to explore more of your community native forest reserve.

THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
