Green ‘S’ Force Planting Days—22 and 23 June 2013

June 24, 2013

This weekend another great group of volunteers from the Green ‘S’ Force  braved wind and rain to make a major contribution to the CUE Haven restoration project.  In spite of windy and rainy weather, the team managed to plant an amazing number of trees.

The Shah Satnam Ji Green ‘S’ Welfare Force was formed in India by Saint Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh Ji Insan in 2006.  Originally intended to help humanity in distress by mobilising during natural disasters, the organisation today has expanded its membership and scope.

Today the Green ‘S’ Welfare Force has over 30 million volunteers operating around the world.  In addition to disaster relief work, they are also involved in environmental clean up projects, blood donor drives, anti-drug campaigns and tree planting to help the environment.

All of the members work or go to school during the week and devote their weekends to volunteer service.

This was the second time a group the Green ‘S’ Welfare Forced planted at CUE Haven and once again we really enjoyed working with them and were impressed by their dedication and hard work.

On Friday night, Simar, Ranjit and Amandeep arrived to set up for the weekend.  And, depending on their schedules, the rest of the group came on Saturday or Sunday morning.  The group included Bharpoor, Captain, Dalvir, Jugsee, Karmjit, Lahkbir, Meenu, Pooja, Raj, Sakinder, Samandeep, Sukhchain, Sukhwinder, Summit, Varjat, Veerpal and Vinod.

The group got started first thing on Saturday and continued planting in the area they had started the last time they were on site.

The busy planters needed a steady stream of plants to keep them busy.

The weather on Saturday was very good, with just an occasional shower plus a few amazing rainbows.

And the team could even take breaks in the field.

Sunday started out nice but we watched as a storm approached from over the harbour.

It didn’t take long to reach us.

The wind and rain were so strong that the team decided to take their break inside and hope that conditions improved.  The rain slowed down but never really stopped for the rest of the day.  Even so, the team went back to work.

It turned out to be a successful but messy planting day:

But the team was taken good care of by Amandeep, who cooked the delicious vegetarian meals on Saturday and Dalvir and Sakinder, who cooked on Sunday.

And a big thank you to Ranjit who drove the ute and kept the team supplied with trays of plants.

Our heartfelt thanks everyone who came out this weekend for a great effort.  In spite of the weather, the group managed to plant an amazing number of trees.
