Our friends Luke, Peter and Phil have been volunteering at CUE Haven for years and today they once again came up to help out with some winter maintenance work.

CUE Haven is surrounded by working farms and this time of year when days are shorter and grass doesn’t recover as quickly, the neighbours cows can be tempted to take a nibble from the CUE Haven vegetation.
So one of our priority maintenance tasks is to keep an open buffer zone between the boundary fence and the trees and we requested the team to walk the fence line, inspect the fence and do any necessary trimming.
They managed to cover the entire area of fence we were concerned about, but ironically, while they were working, they met one of the neighbour’s cows who was where he wasn’t supposed to be!

After spotting him from a distance, they tried to get him back through the fence, but he decided to give them a workout and keep moving. As a result, they got some practice with their tracking skills.

They spent some time and got a lot of additional exercise trying to get him back through the fence and eventually he got back where he belongs.

We’ve since done two inspections of the property are are satisfied that he’s gone. We’ve also double checked the fence to make sure it is secure.
It made for an interesting and unusual volunteer day. We really appreciate Luke, Peter and Phil for their friendship and continued support and for all their hard (and unplanned) effort.
We look forward to seeing you again for a more relaxed visit.
Thank You!! Thank You!!
