We would like to hear from you. Feel free to post your comments or suggestions below:
thanks heaps tom and mahrukh for a very enjoyable week, i learnt new things about conservation and made lots of new friends which was great. I cant wait to see all the pictures from the week and i would really like to come back as a leader at some stage.
What a wonderful group of young people – they did great work and no doubt learnt many new skills during their week to remember.
Sorry to hear Tom is still out of action.
Thank you very much for hosting the DoE young people. My son Jack has just been and has apparently had the best week ever!! I think he could have stayed all summer and beyond :) Thank you for the adventure and allowing them to gain valuable skills and also just to hang out and make new friends.
Well done all you lucky children, great to get out there with your hands into the soil, and just to think in your lifetimes you could return to to find the beautiful CUE has turned into a beautiful forest alive with native birds and fauna
Dear Tom and Mahrukh
Thank you for inviting us to Cuehaven.I loved every moment and learn’t a heap
about interesting plants and bugs/mites. Thanks for all the yummy food and I
hope the Milo company sticks those pictures on their main wall.
The Auckland City Council sure helped us out and I bet it was hard to ask them
to come. Trees For Survival is a great place and so are you too. Thanks for helping
save the planet!

Hi i am Hugo from Saint Kentigern School class 6KD. I would like to say thank you to Tom and Mahrukh it was a great day and so much fun. Thank you for the food and being so kind to us. I learnt a lot and would love to come again sometime. It is amazing what you are doing. I had lots of friends planting with me, and I think you should bring in heaps of different schools so there will be many trees. P.S thank you for the milo bars.
Hi I am George Mordaunt and I want to thank you for having us at your farm. We all had great fun, I enjoyed working with my friends and also enjoyed having food and drinks handed out to us FOR FREE!!! This was my favourite trip I have been to yet.
To Tom and Mahrukh,
Thank you for inviting us to plant on your great farm (big bit of land).
I loved when we found a very big worm it was awesome.
Thank you for the food I loved it and the milo bars they were great.
for inviting us to explore the hills.
Me my mum and my group loved being out for the day.

Hey CUE Haven, this is Sam Looker from Saint Kentigern School. I recently planted trees and thought it was so much fun!! I liked how we also got to do water testing with Rachel.
I planted with one of my friends which made the work a lot easier! We planted about 10. But they were all good ones, we took our time and made sure we dug the holes to the exact right size.
It was a great day and I had lots of fun. It was especially generous of you to provide all the food for all of the boys. I liked the Iced Tea and the Smoozes!
thank you so much i am from saint kents i really enjoyed planting the trees and getting my hands dirty it was the best field trip ever. and i would like to say thanks so much for letting us come and plant on your wonderful property.
i really enjoyed checking how dense the water is and if it is healthy to swim in, and of course getting to plant trees.
best of luck.
hello im the from saint kent group that came out it was fun as can be ti was hard work.
it was fun as coming out to CUE haven it was fun planting we got to do some fun out door thing it was fun getting our hand dirty
Part 2 I really enjoyed the looking at the waters density and the small bugs like leaches you showed us. Also I learnt never drink water from a stream because it can have invertebrates
in it or swimming in it. Also water can carry eggs that can actually hatch inside you and will only come out with first aid, surgery or tablets.
hey cue haven is the best i am one of the boys from the saint kentigon school group on the behalf of all the boys of 6kd and 6bk this was the best trip ever thank you
for having us over to the best place we full suport this place for years to come it was the best in the world my name is alex
This is an amazing project Mahrukh. What wonderful people you both are to create such a haven for the future. I’m sure that your vision will awaken many people to be conscious of their environment and also encourage them to keep our world more greener and beautiful to live in. Looking forward to visiting CUE Haven.
Thank you very much, Soonu. We look forward to seeing you, Ronny and Zia at CUE Haven sometime soon!
Hallo Mahrukh and Tom. Just want to say thank you for letting me part of the work today, of helping just a little bit to contribute to create the walking paths. It was an amazing day and wonderful to be part of such a worthwhile cause. An amazing project. You both have created a miracle so far. Keep me posted. I will be there when you need more help
Thanks so much Gabi! It was great having you with us and we really appreciate all your hard work. We look forward to seeing you again!
Amazing project. I’ve only just now properly got my mind around it. The TVNZ piece on you is the best intro.
I’m curious how you, an American, and your wife, a Persian (is that right?), chose NZ for this. But it does seem to be the ideal place. And you’ve gathered an entire community around you. You’ve almost made it a spiritual center.
I also like how you’ve used WordPress differently here, compared to your other blog. It gives me ideas. Segregating the comments section out to its own page (here); saying “What’s new” instead of “Blog”, etc etc.
we really enjoyed our day with you. It wasn’t hard work, we had lots of fun and we felt really good that we had helped a little bit towards what you want. We think St Kents should come out maybe twice a year that way all the boys in year 6 would have fun. Our mum thought it was great too. We slept well that night. Good Luck from Connor and Anton and their Mum
We think it would be a great idea if St. Kents came out twice a year! Mention the idea to Mrs. Coleman and maybe we can work something out!
Tom & Mahrukh
It was lovely to talk to you this afternoon – what an amazing vision you have. Such a great project, I wish you all the best with the coming planting season :)
Kerri (Forest & Bird)
Fascinating project – and great website. The only thing I couldn’t find was the exact location or address but I’m sure I’ll find out and then hopefully be able to come along to help with weed maintenance.
Good luck, Oliver
WoWwww! I am stunned and blown away. What an amazing project and accomplishment so far. I am in awe. I always thought you’re both amazing but this tops it. I am looking forward to see the ‘haven’ and the wonderful result of your hard work. I am sure it’ll make a beautiful inspiring and spiritual retreat.
Hi Mahrukh and Tom,
What an innovative idea! Our beautiful planet has suffered so much through neglect and greed and now you are out there to try and restore some of the damage done. It is an enormous job that you have taken on. I wish you much success and support in your endeavours.
Hi i’m from st kents school and we have just been today.
thanks i enjoyed it lots and the lunch was soooooo delicious i had lots of fun and hope you succeed in your forest.
you should ask us to come more often. you should also when you’re done help recreate more parks across other countries. it was great being able to come !
Thanks very much Hugo for coming out and helping us with our tree planting. We are glad you had a nice time and we hope you will come out again to help plant the forest at CUE Haven and also to see how the trees you and your school mates planted are coming along. Thanks again.
my Gregorian birthday falls right next to the hebrew calendar holiday of “the birthday of the trees” named tu bishvat (which is a date).
what you are doing is a celebration of life. so why limit yourself to memorials? how about birthdays and anniversaries and any celebration of life as an occasion to plant a tree?
my son just went to camp today. and he won’t be singing this song because it falls in january… but the lyrics still inspire (just drop the last verse… as it is theist)
It is a tree of life for those who hold fast to it
And all it’s supporters are happy
It’s ways are pleasantness
And all it’s paths are peace
Return us to you, our God, and we will return (drop)
here is a cool video of the birthday of trees this year “birthday of the tress”
there is even another one more interesting with digital animation. marketing ideas?
Thank you for your suggestion to plant ‘trees of life”. We have been receiving lots of good suggestions from many people and we will consider them all as we continue to develop the CUE Haven project. Thanks.

It’s not very original on my part, but I do love New Zealand.
Twice my husband, children and I were treated to a month on the South Island, while my husband was directing operas at the (now defunct?) Canterbury Opera in Christchurch: Eugene Onegin and Barber of Seville.
Hello Thomas. Congratulations on the amazing CUE project and your new website. The land is spectacular and the natural vegetation so luscious. Well done and very best wishes with your venture. Love the idea of memorial plantings.
Awesome undertaking! I hope to see CUE Haven in person one day and plant some trees with you. Keep up the great work!
This is a wonderful, selfless thing you’re doing for your area, but really for all of us. Thank you!
What a truly beautiful site and project. If only more people were interested in the kind of world they will leave behind. My Dad and I are both members of lake associations that are working to improve water quality in the lakes in Minnesota. He is far more involved than I am. He works with the local farmers to plant buffer strips of grass that filters the run-off from the farms before it reaches the lake. He has seen a noticeable improvement in the water quality in the past ten years on the lake he resides.
I like that you involve local schools in your project. Involving children and young adults is another way to improve our world. If they feel they are a part of something, included, they are more likely to embrace it.
“Trees, by virtue of their universal presence, majestic yet human scale, bridging the gap between earth and air, are the rightful symbols of all which humankind aspires to in its relationship with the planet.” Oscar Beck
Mahrukh & Tom what a wonderful legacy you are creating. My spirit soars when I think of your vision and your generosity which will benefit all those who have the privilege to experience CUE. The idea of the memorial plantings is brilliant!
It is a haven and I am impressed by your vision. You are leaving a wonderful mark on this planet. We are looking forward to being part of CUE Haven and watching it develop.
WOW!! you two never cease to amaze me. I knew you had bought a block of land about an hour from Auckland, but this is a spectacular block. I have followed some of your adventures via Tom’s blog and your Emails but this total concept is truly wonderful. What a very fitting tribute to humanity you will leave behind. Well done and I am sure Alex and I will be able to see for ourselves one day.
